Here she is… Pennsylvania's own Ms. Senior America contestant.

Doris M. Ulrich, a native of Lebanon County and graduate of Millersville University (formerly Millersville State Teacher’s College) will represent Pennsylvania in November’s Ms. Senior America pageant in Las Vegas.

Ulrich, 70, owns Ulrich Professionals Realty in Cleona, Pa. She has 5 children, and seven grandchildren. Before she was widowed in 1979, she cared for her husband, who had polio for many years.

The Ms. Senior America Pageant is the world's first and foremost pageant to emphasize and give honor to women who have reached the "Age of Elegance". It is a search for the gracious lady who best exemplifies the dignity, maturity and inner beauty of all senior Americans. The Ms. Senior America philosophy is based upon the belief that seniors are the foundation of America and our most valuable treasure. It is upon their knowledge, experience and resourses that the younger generation has the opportunity to build a better society.

Doris has been involved in other Senior pageants has been performing and entertaining for several years. Shirley Karinch, Ms. Senior Pennsylvania '01, has encouraged Doris to enter this pageant for years. Doris performs in Lebanon Singers, and has sung with the Manenerchor Chorus for several years. She is active in her Jonestown Alumni Association and served as a past President. She is currently President of the Snitz Creek Dance Club, and is also active in the Lebanon Dance Club. She has been playing as church organist since, 1968. She has a hard time saying no when asked to perform at various events. She recently entertained at a Mother and Daughter breakfast held at the Farmer's Wife Restaurant, and has various other events scheduled. Doris has met many women in past state pageants and she says that the competition will be tough. "I have seen friends perform. Some dance, others sing, play musical instruments, sew and knit etc..."

During the preliminaries the contestants will speak with judges, reciting their life philosophy. Ulrich's philosophy:

"Love with laughter is a universal cure for men, women and children. It has been said that men practice being funny while women act as the audience of the world. I say, girls can be funny too. My ten year old granddaughter told her class, "My grandma is the Queen of the Old People." My philosophy to you is to release those endorphins, laugh at yourself and life around you."

Doris Ulrich certainly embodies the wisdom, inner beauty, compassion and zest for life that inspires all of us to give honor to the golden women who have reached the age of elegance.
